Does Healthy Living Improve Your Sex Life?

Author: Victoria Jerman Dravneek

Some experts think so. In fact, a recent Duke University study found that as low as a 10 percent drop in body weight (for those who are overweight) can increase sex drive and overall well-being as well as decrease the risk factors for such ailments as diabetes and heart disease. This was overwhelmingly so in women.

It makes a lot of sense when carefully reviewed. When we lose weight, they feel good physically and often have more energy and stamina. There is also a mental component, especially for women, which makes us feel more desirable and more willing to step our of our heavily clothed comfort zones.

What are some practical ways to add more health, energy and vitality to your life that is sure to follow you to the bedroom? Here are 5 tips.

De-Stress With Exercise - Even if it is a brisk walk during lunch or a few minutes of silent meditation and breathing at your desk, simple stress relief can do wonders for all aspects of your life. Stress saps energy and vital nutrients from your body, leaving you wiped out and ready to consume all the comfort food in your pantry or at the local greasy spoon. So, before you reach for that gallon of Ben & Jerry's, stop yourself and realize that medicating yourself with food isn't going to do the trick.

Eat Well - Set yourself up for success by only buying healthy food and by bringing your lunch if possible to work with you. Prepare meals beforehand as much as possible to avoid a "rush" to get food to the table. Try to be mindful of your food as you eat it so that you can avoid eating so quickly.

Snack Better - Pass by the cookie and chip aisle at the store and don't even think about bringing soda home. If you buy it, chances are, you WILL eat it. These foods have empty calories. Not only will they expand your waist line, they'll send the chemicals in your body on a rollercoaster ride with the initial euphoria then a fatigued crash and burn.

Drink Water - Keep a special container just for water in your fridge and refill it every night. Choose a container that you like and take it with you wherever you go.

Give Yourself a Break - If you slip and consume an entire large pizza with all the toppings, don't beat yourself up about it. It will only cause stress that will make you want to eat more - believe me. Stick to an eating plan that works for you. No matter how healthy and wonderful an eating plan is - if it doesn't work for you, you will not stick to it.
