Chiropractor

Author: Kevin Stith

Chiropractors are health care professionals who prevent and treat spinal injuries. The main principle of chiropractics is to maintain the coordination between the brain and the nervous system, where the functions of the body are sent through the spinal cord and the vertebrae. One of the most prominent procedures performed by this branch of health care is joint manipulation or more commonly termed "joint adjustment." Though it is a popular procedure for chiropractors, it is argued to have no long-term effects compared to the use of other methods of treatments.

The American Medical Association (AMA) did not recognize Chiropractic care for years. In fact, the practice has been referred to as "the committee of quackery." Chiropractor critics often disagree with manipulation of the spinal cord as part of the methodology of the practice. They express a great concern about possible severe injuries caused by this manipulation, especially the rotary cervical or neck manipulation wherein a wrong twist has resulted in trauma, paralysis, strokes and death of the patient.

Although many professionals in the medical field s still believe that the methods used by chiropractors are unscientific, chiropractics is growing in popularity. In fact, you see many chiropractors' offices in malls and in gyms. If you are a health conscious, the advice of a chiropractor will appeal to you, because they emphasize a healthy lifestyle, rather than relying on prescribed medicines or surgeries. Chiropractors use treatments that are considered alternative noninvasive health care practices, and treatments for the back, neck, joints and other extremities are more accepted by the public nowadays.
